Petition to Stop the Proposed Quarry

Premier Ford, keep your Promise to Milton

TO THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO:

WHEREAS everyone in Ontario deserves clean drinking water, clean air to breathe and a safe community to live in;

WHEREAS the ongoing pursuit to obtain a licence for the Reid Road Reservoir Quarry, if granted, puts at risk Campbellville and Milton’s water and will negatively impact the community’s air quality and safety;

WHEREAS pedestrians, school children, cyclists, and local commuters and those on the 401 will be endangered by the 60,000 gravel truck trips projected annually and the blasting within 100 meters of the 401;

WHEREAS the Town of Milton and the Region have all confirmed by resolution that they are opposed to the proposed Quarry;

WHEREAS in 2020 Premier Ford at a public meeting in Milton said he would make sure the proposed Reid Road Reservoir Quarry doesn’t happen, which was confirmed on March 27th , 2024 by his PC candidate for Milton, Zeeshan Hamid, at a community meeting;

WHEREAS it is a complete waste of taxpayers time and money to continue with a proponent driven Environmental Assessment of the proposed Quarry, which the community and all levels of government are opposed to;

WE THE UNDERSIGNED petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to stop wasting taxpayers money; to terminate the Environmental Assessment; to deny a licence to extract aggregate or to operate an asphalt/concrete reprocessing facility at the Reid Quarry in Campbellville; and to permanently protect the subject lands by making it conservation lands for enjoyment by all residents of Ontario.

    To whom it may concern,

    It’s Kristine , your concerned neighbor from Campbellville and Milton. I wanted to reach out to you about a pressing matter that’s been keeping us all up at night: the proposed Reid Road Reservoir Quarry.

    I’m sure you can understand the emotional attachment we have to our homes. They’re not just buildings; they’re where our families and loved ones reside. The thought of losing our homes due to this project is truly distressing and unacceptable.

    But it’s not just about our houses. The environmental impact of this quarry is alarming. The increased gravel truck traffic and blasting near the 401 highway pose major risks to the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and commuters. We can’t ignore these concerns.

    Here’s the thing: the Town of Milton and the Region have already expressed their opposition to this quarry through official resolutions. Even Premier Ford himself, during a public meeting in Milton, assured us that he would make sure this quarry doesn’t happen. So why are we wasting time and money on an Environmental Assessment that the community and all levels of government oppose?

    I’m reaching out to you with a heartfelt plea to take immediate action. Let’s terminate the Environmental Assessment, deny any licenses for extraction or operation, and designate these lands as conservation areas for all Ontario residents to enjoy.

    Together, we can protect our homes, our community, and the natural beauty that surrounds us. I trust that you’ll consider our voices and concerns when making your decision.

    Thanks for your attention to this matter, and let’s work together to make a difference!

    Take care,

    Kristine

    There is no need for an additional quarry. The environmental impacts are incredibly harmful and long-lasting. Approval of this would be a very dangerous move by the provincial government.

    Premier Ford was voted in by 18.5 percent of eligible voters. 56 percent of voters didn’t vote on June 2, 2022. It was the lowest voter turnout in history. Ontario voters are lazy, cynical, misinformed about democracy and pathetic.
