Whereas Premier Ford announced on July 29th that his government will “make sure” the Campbellville quarry “doesn’t happen one way or another”;

Whereas the top priority for residents of Milton is to protect public health during the COVID 19

pandemic, and to support an economic recovery; and

Whereas the continuing Joint Agency Review Team (JART) process is a waste of public time and public money;

Be it resolved that I endorse the demands of ACTION Milton that

  • Premier Ford act quickly to stop the Campbellville quarry, and
  • MPP Parm Gill report to the community on a regular basis regarding his efforts to ensure a swift and comprehensive decision by the provincial government to stop the Campbellville quarry

    It is time we began looking more carefully at the gravel situation, especially in relation to prime agricultural, and secondary agricultural land. Gravel can be recycled and needs to be, as gravel pits cause so much stress, and illness, due to noise, particulates in the dust, diesel fumes, unnecessary wear and tear of roads for which the local residents are left with the bill! Wildlife—yes, this is part of the balance of nature, especially the endangered reptiles—is affected far more than is made public, and the constant noise from early morning until evening is another health hazard that is not taken into account more often. Our water tables are always abused, even when permits state that the excavation will not go below the water table, as the owners of the pits make a supplementary request a year or so after opening the mine/pit.

    In view of the above, and all the adverse effects listed by others who have had to live close to a pit/mine, please do not grant permits for this pit/mine!

    My friend has an interesting story of meeting a guy. She worked as a salesman in a store, a guy came and asked her to give me a piglet. The friend began to laugh very loudly and wave her arms in fits of laughter. She waved so that she simultaneously demolished the stand with gum and broke 2 fingers on her hand. The guy took her to the hospital, there they started talking, so much so that she is already a child and 4 years of marriage.

    Protect the environment not big industry. Water if for life not for profit. Another Quarry is not needed.

    During the present pandemic, it should come to everybody’s attention how important

    a healthy environment is for our populations wellbeing, both mentally and physically.

    Destroying this timelessly valuable asset seems to be not only counterproductive

    but very detrimental to the living conditions in our rural community.

    We have enough quarries in this area already, we do not need more trucks on the road,

    more pollutants in the air and water. It is high time our elected representatives DO something for their constituents and ACT, not only TALK.
