Whereas Premier Ford announced on July 29th that his government will “make sure” the Campbellville quarry “doesn’t happen one way or another”;

Whereas the top priority for residents of Milton is to protect public health during the COVID 19

pandemic, and to support an economic recovery; and

Whereas the continuing Joint Agency Review Team (JART) process is a waste of public time and public money;

Be it resolved that I endorse the demands of ACTION Milton that

  • Premier Ford act quickly to stop the Campbellville quarry, and
  • MPP Parm Gill report to the community on a regular basis regarding his efforts to ensure a swift and comprehensive decision by the provincial government to stop the Campbellville quarry

    The entire act governing this should be revised or replaced, as it is slanted totally in favor of the applicant.

    IE: The applicant can spend 6 years preparing their application, once it is presented we citizens have 21 days to respond. The applicant then has 2 years to respond, once they do, we citizens again have 21 days to respond.

    Human and environmental health go hand in hand. Below the water table quarries are a risk too high to accept. Importing and filling below the water table quarries with waste construction soils/fill is a disaster in the making, with potential serious health consequences.

    Halton has too many quarries which are collectively damaging the water supply and intern the ecosystems which rely on our water supply (head waters, streams rivers and aquifers). No water treatment is available to filter the water we need to survive like the natural filtration systems that quarries are removing. Please help maintain our water supply and the ecosystems that enhance them. Say No to quarries in Halton, we provide the drinking water for the GTHA.

    The Campbellville Quarry should become a Provincial Park to be enjoyed by all. Air quality effects include the emissions from the dump truck traffic along Reid Side Road and other local roads. Exhaust emissions and the noise levels created by the +/-500 Hp diesel engines will be horrendous considering the number of truck trips required to move the 1,000,000 tonnes of aggregate to be extracted annually: more than 25 tri-axle dump truck trips per hour on average. Mr. Ford and Mr. Gill, quarries should be located in remote areas not in quiet country communities.
